چکیده

Virtanen and Laine (1937) were the first to suggest the existence of an aspartic acid decarboxylase in Rhizobium trifolii, by the isolation of beta-alanine from a 47-day fermentation mash containing aspartic acid. Shive and Macow (1946), working with hydroxyaspartic acid as a competitive analogue for aspartic acid in the metabolism of Escherichia coli, found that the addition of this compound to the growth medium inhibited the proliferation of the organism and that this inhibition was completely prevented by the addition of aspar(ic acid, pantothenic acid, or beta-alanine. They concluded from these results that aspartic acid was the precursor of beta-alanine, which in turn becomes part of the pantothenic acid molecule. It has been reported recently (Mardeshev et al., 1948, 1949) by several Russian workers that they have found an organism, Pseudomycobacterium, that is capable of decarboxylating aspartic acid, as measured by C02 production in a Warburg vessel. They further state that the enzyme has been prepared in a cell-free state (Mardeshev et al., 1948) and that the coenzyme of the decarboxylase has been found to be pyridoxine phosphate (Mardeshev et al., 1949). It has more recently been reported from this laboratory (Billen and Lichstein, 1949) that washed cell suspensions of Rhizobium trifolii contain an aspartic acid decarboxylase as determined by microbiological analysis for the end product of the decarboxylation, beta-alanine. Because of the importance of such an enzyme, further studies have been made and the data are herewith presented.

Cross-reactive antigens and lectin as determinants of symbiotic specificity in the Rhizobium-clover association.

Cross-reactive antigens of clover roots and Rhizobium trifolii were detected on their cell surfaces by tube agglutination, immunofluorescent, and radioimmunoassay techniques. Anti-clover root antiserum had a higher agglutinating titer with infective strains of R. trifolii than with noninfective strains. The root antiserum previously adsorbed with noninfective R. trifolii cells remained reactive...

Crystallization and preliminary X-ray crystallographic analysis of malonyl-CoA decarboxylase from Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii.

Malonyl-CoA decarboxylase (MCD), which catalyzes the conversion of malonyl-CoA to acetyl-CoA, is an evolutionarily distinct and highly conserved enzyme. MCD does not share sequence homology with other known decarboxylases, while the enzymes from different species exhibit at least >30% sequence identity to each other. In order to provide a canonical structure of the enzyme for detailed study of ...

Effect of Rhizobium trifolii, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Azotobacter chroococcum on Growth and Yield of Crismon Clover and Rice in a Rice-Clover Rotation

Cultivation of legume species as the second crop in rotation with rice and using plant growth promoting bacteria can be a good approach to improve rice production sustainability. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of plant growth promoting bacteria on accelerating vegetative growth of crimson clover (Alborz 1) and rice (Hashemi) yield in a rice-based cropping system. A facto...

Influence of azospirillum strains on the nodulation of clovers by Rhizobium strains.

Mixed cultures of several Azospirillum and Rhizobium trifolii strains caused either an inhibition or stimulation of nodule formation on plant hosts as compared with nodulation of plants inoculated with R. trifolii alone. Azospirillum strains affected the nodulation process at a precise cell ratio (R. trifolii/Azospirillum cells) and time of inoculation. All Azospirillum strains used showed a va...
